The Beauty of Long Eyelashes: How They Make You Pretty

When it comes to indicators of attractiveness in men and women, facial features play a major role. Studies have shown that large eyes are more desirable in women, and long eyelashes can help accentuate them, making them look bigger. This is often associated with greater attractiveness, which is why long eyelashes are seen as more attractive to both girls and boys. Researchers led by Farid Pazhoohi of the University of British Columbia in Canada, estimate that the optimal eyelash length for women is approximately one quarter to one third of the eye's width.

A unidirectional analysis of variance (ANOVA) was calculated that showed that the relationships between the length and width of the eyelashes of 0.20, 0.24, 0.30 and 0.36 were considered the most attractive. Long eyelashes have been linked to femininity since time immemorial, and the first documentary effort to emphasize eyelashes dates back to 4,000 B. C. Even adding a pair of long eyelashes onto an inanimate object such as a car can give it a female character (see Cars for this example).

When participants were shown a series of photos of the same face with eyelashes of different lengths, the results seemed to indicate that the ideal length of the eyelashes is approximately one third of the length of the eye. This length reduces the deposition of particles in the air and the evaporation of the tear film by a factor of two. Long eyelashes are also an indicator of health, an extremely important factor in terms of biological attraction. A previous study suggests that the main function of the eyelashes is related to the tear duct system, which “provides a thin layer composed of mucus, oil and water to lubricate the eyelid, moisturize the cornea and remove particles deposited in the eye.” The data also shows that excessively long eyelashes are just as unpleasant as eyelashes that are too short, something scientists call the “inverted U function of eyelash attractiveness”.

If you have sparse, short, or clear eyelashes that are barely noticeable, then you should consider using an eyelash growth serum or eyebrow enhancer like Terez & Honor after eyelash extensions have left your natural lashes damaged. The findings do not support the view that increasing eyelash length will always increase the attractiveness of female faces. However, it is clear that long lashes can be beneficial in terms of making eyes look bigger and more youthful.
